Irene Elizabeth Mulhall (nee Childs) of Little Neck, age 84, beloved wife of the
late William P. Mulhall, passed away at home on Good Friday April 18, 2025,
surrounded by her loving family. Irene was a proud and dedicated mother to
her nine children, Patricia, Irene Grosse (Peter), Diane McLaughlin (Steven),
William (Vicki), Daniel, Thomas (Joanne), Constance Clark, Catherine
Cannizzaro (Caulden) and the late Michael. In addition to her children, Irene is
survived by her nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Peter
Grosse (Lauren), Steven Grosse, Christopher Grosse (Antonia), Michael Grosse,
Julianna Grosse, Steven McLaughlin (Sarah), Brendan McLaughlin, Shannon
McLaughlin (Christopher), Vanessa Mulhall, Michael Mulhall, Daniel Mulhall,
Madeline Mulhall, Kara Mulhall, Julia Mulhall, Jaclyn Clark, Robert Clark, Joseph
Cannizzaro, Jack Cannizzaro, Alice Cannizzaro, Olivia Grosse, Eevee Grosse,
Peter Grosse and Liam Connors.
Irene was born on May 21,1940 to Alice and Francis Childs. Irene grew up in
Elmhurst, Queens and graduated from Newtown High School where she
excelled in track. Irene worked as a talented bookkeeper and leg model
before marrying the love of life, William Mulhall. She then dedicated her life to
community, church and her close, loving family.
Irene was a dedicated catechist and parishioner at Saint Anastasia Church for
almost 60 years. She was very active in her children and grandchildren’s lives
and enjoyed celebrating the many milestones of her large, loving family. After
serving as PTA president of PS 94 Queens, Irene went on to be elected to District
26 School Board in 1989, where she served several terms.
Irene spent summers in West Oak Recreation Club (WORC) in Oakdale, NY
where she enjoyed time with family and friends. Irene was an active member of
the WORC Ladies Auxiliary and served as president. This summer would have
been her 50th at WORC!
Irene will be dearly missed by her friends and extended family, including her
brother-in-law Dominic Camastro, her sisters-in-law Ellen Pilger and Mary
Lebrecht (Caroline Griffin), and her many nieces and nephews.
Irene was predeceased by her five sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice & William
Johnson, Rita Camastro, Mary & Walter Crowley, Helen & Robert Kolsch, Ann &
Anthony Fello and Charles Pilger.
Irene was known for her kind and compassionate nature. She was a beautiful
person who always helped and cared for others. Everyone that knew Irene
enjoyed her warmth, laughter and sense of humor. Her presence was a loving
gift to all her family and friends and she will be deeply missed.
