ROBERT L. TIMMERMAN
January 11, 1937 – October 17, 2025
Bob was born at Wyckoff Heights Hospital in Brooklyn on January 11, 1937, to Louis and Mary Timmerman (née Janus).
He grew up in Flushing, Queens in the parish of St. Nicholas of Tolentine R.C. Church, with his two brothers Raymond (deceased) and Louis. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School (’54) and Queens College (’59). An accomplished collegiate athlete, he was a member of the water polo, track & field and basketball teams. After graduating college, he completed basic training at Shepard Air Force Base in Texas, was certified as an aircraft mechanic, and served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve until he was honorably discharged in July 1965. He joined the Western Electric Company in 1963, worked for several Bell System telecommunication companies as a computer systems manager retiring from Verizon in 1990.
Bob met Barbara (née Belosic) at a college sorority party in Little Neck, and they were married at St. Anastasia R.C. Church on June 16, 1962. He was a devoted husband to Barbara for 63 years and a loving father to his two children, Rob Timmerman and Susan Holzman. Bob had an extra special place in his heart for his three grandchildren, Kathryn Timmerman, Barbara Timmerman and Lincoln Holzman, and loved and cherished every minute he spent with them. He also thought of his daughter-in-law, Bessie, and his son-in-law, Stewart, as his own. Bob loved his family dearly and was always there for us with anything we needed.
Bob was a master organizer and planner. He thoroughly enjoyed designing and building all the numerous home improvement projects he took on. An avid golfer and traveler, he generously sponsored many extended family car trips and cruises. His witty and often unpredictable sense of humor, especially on the many golf courses he played weekly with friends and relatives, was legendary, as well as his many stories as a summer lifeguard at Wildwood State Park and Jones Beach among many others. His kind generous heart and good humor will be missed by all who knew him. May his memory and good works echo in eternity.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bob’s favorite charity, the Missionary Society of St. Columban, at WWW.COLUMBAN.ORG/DONATE
