Many fond memories of Mr. Payne. Encouraged me to join the freshman basketball team in 1980 and helped teach me what leadership was all about. I remember a dedicated, smart, compassionate man who no doubt positively affected the lives of many.

I am sorry for your loss. Mr. Payne, as I and generations of students called him was my English and Mathematics teacher when I attended Cathedral Prep in the late 70s and early 80s. He was also my basketball coach. You should be proud of the good work he did with generations of young men. God rest his soul.

I taught with Brian - a fellow Fordham Ram - for only a few years back in the 90s at Cathedral Prep A true Renaissance man - mathematics and science, literature and drama, athletics and a deep faith. May his family be comforted knowing Brian made a significant people over the yrears as an educator, coach, colleague, and mentor. Rest in peace!
