Henry Laurence McGrath, known as Harry, was born on December 2, 1926 in Wexford, Ireland to John and Anne (nee Joyce) McGrath. He was the eldest of 6 siblings. At age 16 he went to sea as a merchant sailor. He travelled the world for 16 years both as a merchant sailor and then on cruise ships travelling weekly from New York to Bermuda.
Harry married Philomena (Phyllis) Hynes in 1957 and in 1958, their daughter Mary was born. The family emigrated to New York City in 1960 and in 1963, welcomed twins Terry and Sheila. Harry worked for 34 years at Riverside Memorial Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. He was an amateur Ham radio operator, held a great knowledge of world geography and had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met.
Harry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis. He leaves behind a family of loving children, his sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
