We celebrate the extraordinary life of Retired FDNY Lt. James Donohue (Jim) from Douglaston, Queens. Jim went to grade school at St. Anastasia’s in Little Neck, Queens and later played basketball for St. Helena’s high school in the Bronx. He remained an athlete throughout his life, with passions for swimming, tennis, skiing, and golf. Jim served as a member of the FDNY for 30 years, first as a firefighter in Ladder 55 Engine 71 in the south Bronx, and then as a Lieutenant in Ladder 8 (Ghostbusters Headquarters) in Tribeca. Jim was a first responder on 9/11 and spent substantial time at Ground Zero searching for survivors. In his everyday life he also demonstrated compassion towards animals. Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Libby), daughter, Mariah, sons, James (Guy) and Francis (Frankie), future son-in-law, David Weisenbeck, sisters, Joanne Devine and Margaret (Peggy) Donohue, two nieces, two nephews, two dogs, six cats, and many long-time friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Margaret Donohue, and older brother, Francis. He is missed dearly.
