Joan was born at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City on December 25, 1941, to Joseph and Christine Komara. A Christmas Baby! She was a big sister to Susan, who arrived 4 and 1/2 years later. After graduating from Bayside High School, Joan worked at General Motors in New York City. After taking years off to start and raise a family, Joan went to work at the American College of Angiology, where she was the executive director and coordinated worldwide conferences. She enjoyed the opportunity to travel to so many exciting places and to meet many different people. Joan met Dean at Zion Episcopal Church and was married there on September 9, 1961. She was a devoted wife to Dean for 56 years and a loving mother to baby Karen (deceased), Alison and Janine. Joan had an extra special place in her heart for her grandchildren: Lauren Joan, Dean Thomas and Cole Harrison. She loved and cherished every minute she spent with them. Joan also thought of her sons-in-law, Josh and Tom, as the sons she never had. Joan loved her family dearly and was always our support system: there for us with anything we needed.
