John Schillinger Delin, Jr. passed away at the age of 66 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington on April 10, 2025, following a long battle with Frontotemporal Lobe Dementia. John was born in Burbank, California on March 7, 1959.
John was lovingly looked after by his sister, Claudia Delin Jensen, and his one-on-one personal caregiver, Ada Flores. During John’s seven years in memory care Ada went above and beyond in every way and became an extended family member. The family also thanks the caring staff at Cross Creek Adult Family Home.
John is the son of John S. (Jack) Delin and Jane Fichtl Delin, both originally from Long Island, New York. Jack and Jane moved to California in 1953 and raised their family there. John is survived by his sister Claudia Jensen, her husband Ed Jensen and many cousins, the most notable of whom is Ernie Bartol who is our New York attorney and friend. John is also survived by his beloved cat, Sammy, who is now with Claudia and Ed.
John grew up in Millbrae, California and worked in the Bay Area until he moved to Washington in 1996. John was a graduate of the Arizona Automotive Institute in Phoenix and worked as a service technician for both BMW and Mercedes for many years. He was a gifted diagnostician. Later he bought a commercial “big truck” and hauled refrigerated and frozen food items between Seattle and Denver every week. John was very athletic and loved cycling, and before he got sick he would ride between 25 and 70 miles on a routine basis.
John had a tender and kind heart and a sweet smile and struggled with the “behavioral variants” aspect of his illness, as well as the ALS-like symptoms that developed later.
John will be interred with his mother and grandparents at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
