Konstantinos (Kostas) Vesdrevanis, 83, of Corfu, Greece passed away on Monday, March 18th, 2024 in Little Neck, New York. Kostas was born in Tsamantas, Greece to the late Minas and Anna (Skopa) Vesdrevanis. He attended school in his village and started working at an early age next to his father, then went on to work in Ioannina and Athens. In 1969, Kostas eventually became a member of the Greek diaspora in the US, serving the culinary industry in Massachusetts and New York for five decades.
Kostas loved reading, and he would always have his reading glasses close by. As a young adult in Athens in the 1960’s, he would read all the great classics in between work. Later, while living in the US, Kostas would be loyal to his subscriptions of “National Geographic”, “Times”, and “Readers’ Digest”. Kostas also stayed on top of world affairs and local politics and thoroughly enjoyed a good debate. Kostas was passionate about Greek folk music from his native land “Epirotika” and later about jazz, particularly the great Dizzy Gillespi.
Kostas was a dedicated husband and father, and a tender grandfather who traveled regularly to New York and Luxembourg to visit his beloved grandchildren affectionately known as his “zouzounia” in Greek, meaning “little bugs”. Kostas enjoyed gardening, which he practiced daily during the spring and summer months and regularly sent photos of his garden to his children over his smartphone. During the winter months, Kostas could be found by the fireplace in his home in Corfu, Greece while reading Greek and US newspapers on his tablet.
Kostas is survived by his wife Olga, his children Anne Marie Vesdrevanis (Kostas Karoumpis), Monika Vesdrevanis (Nikos Gouvatsos), Petros Vesdrevanis (Mary Vesdrevanis), and his beloved grandchildren Stefania, Nikolas, Konstantinos and Eleni. Loving brother of the late Evanthia Kentrou and her husband the late Vaggelis, the late Eleni Alexiou and her husband the late Stavros, Crysanthi Kotsoni and her husband Elias, Dimitra Tsigkou and her husband the late Nikolaos, the late Spyros Vesdrevanis, and Aliki Karras and her husband Nikolaos. Living brother in law of Anna Goulas, Paraskevi Marinos, and her husband Yorgos. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
A prayer service is on Friday, March 22 at Doyle B. Shaffer Funeral Home. An additional memorial service will take place in Corfu, Greece. Donations to your preferred charity would be greatly appreciated.
