Ljiljana was a special person who had a heart of gold. Foremost in her life was her family but right after that was her love of teaching. I was blessed to have taught with Ljiljana at Roosevelt Island. There she taught French across the way from me and I was soon reciting those French words she was teaching her students. But one thing I have always remembered about Ljiljana was the advise she gave me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age. She told me that she also was a survivor and that I could overcome this obstacle in my life. She always said I would never die of breast cancer and here it is 24 years later and she was right. Her belief in me helped me to succeed in my efforts to overcome cancer. I will always keep Ljiljana in my prayers.

I was so sad to hear about the loss of your mother. What a wonderful comfort it must have been for her to be surrounded by the loving family she created. "Mrs K." left a deep impression on so many of us. She helped us laugh and have fun while we learned. She was my 8th grade English teacher. I, and my best friends, loved her class, and really we just loved her. She was a very very special soul and I am one of the lucky ones that got to be in her presence in this lifetime. My condolences to Mrs. Knezevich's family. We all loved her, too.

Although I've not seen Mrs. Knezzevich in over 3 decades, I still remember her as a great teacher of the P.S. I.S. 217M on Roosevelt Island school. She taught me many French phrases that I still remember to this day. She made learning a new language fun and interesting! Fair and kind. Honest and showed care. Rest in peace, ma'am! I am sure you will hear, "Well done, my good and faithful servant" when you arrive at the gates of heaven. My prayers are with her family, friends and all that are affected by her passing.

To the Knezevich family, My heart was totally broken when I heard the news about our Mrs. Knezevich. She made my childhood one of the best times of my life growing up, and the bonds and memories we will have of her and of Shadeland can never be erased. All of you girls made her so proud and to think she had not one but four beautiful daughters is a special gift from God. I know that I will never ever forget Mrs. Knezevich and our fun times together nor will I let her memory fade away. She was a wonderful mom, wife and Christian who loved her heritage and her faith and I know that she is somewhere very special in God's hands. Dear Djordje, Radmila, and all the Knezevic's - It was with such pain that I learned of the loss of beloved Ljiljana. From the first time I met her thirty years ago, she was a joy and a gift to everyone whose life she touched. Most recently, she helped my daughter connect to her Serbian faith and heritage at church school. My children join me in sending you our thoughts and love to you all. Ljiljana was simply a jewel. We taught across the hall form one another at IS 217. She was so supportive and kind, with a wonderful smile and sense of humor. The loss of her daughter devastated her, but my hope is that they are together now. My thoughts are with her family, RIP, Ljiljana.

Mrs. Knezevich was an exceptional teacher and human being. She remained involved in the lives of students far into our adulthood and we love her for her devotion to us and for amazing passion for her family and faith. I am sad we all have lost her but take some comfort from having had my life enriched by her. I'm sure she affected all she knew in this way. RIP Mrs. K.

She was my middle school French teacher at Ps/IS 217!! I will always remember her smile and her devotion! Always made sure that we understood her daily lesson. How could I possibly forget Mme Knezvich's teaching as she was my first introduction to the world of French language. I can still recall her joyfully teaching us songs in French and sentence conjugation. Like all great teachers, she will be truly missed. My deepest and sincerest condolences to her family.

She put up with a lot of things that most teachers would and should not have to deal with but always willing to help. I cannot describe my sadness and a deep sense of loss when George called me this morning (12/27) to tell me about Ljiljana's passing. I felt so close to her despite the fact that we did not see one another very often. We had so much to share - the unbearable history of the 1940's, subsequent displacements - life experiences that only deep upheavals can produce. I will miss her SO! I am in shock and am saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Knezevich. She instilled in me a love of the French language that continues to this day. She clearly loved her profession and her enthusiasm was contagious. Merci beaucoup for all you have done to spread the French "langue" to so many lucky students! You will be greatly missed. It's comforting to know how she was supported and loved by her family, and was an active member of the Serbian Orthodox faith. May her memory be eternal!
