Owen McKenna, 88, of Queens, New York passed away on June 23, 2023.

Owen was the middle son between Charles and Eugene born to Mary and Owen McKenna on August 14, 1934.
He attended St. Bartholomew Grammar School. He graduated from La Salle Academy High School, NYC, in 1952.

Owen served his country with pride and distinction in the Korean War as a Specialist Class Four in the US Army, earning an honorable discharge. After the conflict Owen utilized the GI Bill to obtain his Associates Degree in Accounting.

In 1957 while working part time for the Postal Service, Owen met Maureen O’Dea at her place of work when she broke a rule of proper handling of the mail and he corrected her.
They married in 1959 and spent 64 years together both saying they were in the right. They also went on to raise Daniel, Eileen, Thomas and Robert between Elmhurst and Little Neck.

Owen was a Jack of all trades and worked dozens of jobs throughout his life but in 1959 he joined the FDNY and proudly served the people of the city of New York for 40 years. He volunteered on “the pile” after 911 with other retirees.
Owen also volunteered for many years coaching youth sports. He was a person who anyone and everyone around him could count on.

He is survived by his loving wife, loyal brother and grateful children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

So sorry to hear about Mr. McKenna. He was such a kind & funny family man. My deepest sympathy to his wonderful family.

When I first met Owen, we were building our brewpub , Ross Valley Brewing company. Owen was so enthusiastic to help and talented. He was also fun and kind. It was a special time for all of us, and I love that Owen was part of it and got to spend time getting to know him. The most fun though was watching Owen, my father in law and my Dad, build out aspects of the brewpub together. Priceless!

Our sincerest, heartfelt condolences to the McKenna family and all that loved Owen McKenna! We only met Mr. and Mrs. McKenna once - and we were made to feel like family!! It was one of our loveliest afternoons - ever! Such warmth and kindness in such a brief time, we can only imagine what a wonderful legacy has been left behind! In our prayers and thoughts - always! John, Michelle and the Serna family.

Rest in peace, Mr. McKenna! Best wishes to all the McKenna family. I feel very fortunate to have grown up in Little Neck/Douglaston with such great friends and a network of remarkable, supportive parents like Mr. And Mrs. McKenna, Mr. And Mrs. Heintz and so many others. Thanks, coach, for making me go back out for that third little league at-bat of the game so I could get hit by my third pitch of the day! Stung at the time, but the lesson stays with me to this day!

Owen was one of the kindest gentlemen i have ever known and our family was blessed to have him as our friend. His memory will be cherished always in our hearts. Our sincere sympathy to Maureen, Dan, Eileen, Tom and Bob and their families. May he Rest In Peace. Love the Cook family
