A celebration of the life of Thomas C. Dinegar will be held on Thursday, October 29th from 6:00-8:00 PM, and Friday, October 30th from 4:00-8:00 PM. Tom passed away on October 27th, 2020 just a week shy of his 66th birthday. He was a loving father, a hopelessly romantic husband, and a terrible cook. Tom leaves behind his wife Karen and three children, Devon, Meghan and Thomas – all who remember him as a lover of corny jokes, drinker of crappy beer and the quiet patriarch of his huge family. Tom was born in Bayside, Queens to Robert and Helen Dinegar, and was the second oldest of nine children: Robbie, Rosemary, Jim, Patricia, Leonard, Andrew, Gregory and Christian. A graduate of Bayside High School, he enlisted in the US Army in 1973 and was assigned to the 317th Combat Engineer Battalion, stationed near Frankfurt, Germany. After his time in the service, he worked as a limo driver and chauffeured countless celebrities. His memories from this time would fuel stories his kids would hear for the rest of his life. Tom later joined the New York State Court Officers where he became an Appellate Court Clerk. He was with the courts for 32 years until he retired, after which he occupied himself with driving his wife crazy. He was heavily involved in his community, as the Vice Commander of Post 103 of the American Legion and the Veteran Coordinator for the Little Neck Douglaston Memorial Day Parade. Tom was also a one-time bugle player when no one else could be found to play Taps. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He is unequivocally considered the nicest person anyone ever knew. As one of my wife Kathy's closest friends from her college days at Oneonta, you are a treasure to me. From attending your wedding and meeting Tom, we saw right away the decent, kind and gentle soul he was. You guys were quite well matched. When we first came to visit you in Little Neck, we arrived late and were hungry. As you and Kathy huddled and wanted to stay put, Tom quietly asked if I cared to visit a nearby restaurant, where he drove me and joined me for a bite to eat. He couldn't have been more accommodating...on another visit, we went to Rockefeller Center, where you could be recorded doing a pretend interview with Conan O'Brien. Tom really egged me on until finally I relented. He really had a wry sense of humor that fit right in my wheelhouse. I truly wish we had spent more time together...One last thing, Tom was also the finest driver I ever saw. All our best and condolences to you and your family.
